Palmeral de Orihuela (tourist routes).

This tourist route is also known as the Palmeral, Bustamante and Mina furnace; and it is located just 30 kilometers from Orihuela Costa. The Orihuela Palm Grove is of Arab origin, and its landscape is dominated by date palms of the Poenix Dactylifera type.

The palm trees, in addition to offering their dates, also became a resource for the small artisanal industry through the exploitation of hearts of palm, basketry and brooms.

The agricultural system is intensively irrigated, and both the paths and the irrigation channels are arranged on the margins of the terraces that are also characteristic of the area.

Traditionally, cotton, hemp, vegetables, fruit trees, mulberry trees, olive trees and alfalfa are grown and / or cultivated on these terraces.

The Spanish Historical Heritage Law protects the Palmeral de Orihuela as a Site of Cultural Interest.

The Santa Matilde furnace of the Bustamante type dates back to its construction in 1888, and was used to obtain mercury from cinnabar, a metal that was used for the extraction of silver and gold. It is considered unique in its type and its state of conservation, representing an industrial archeology heritage of incalculable value worldwide.

In the middle of the 11th century, other mines were also exploited in the area; dedicated to the extraction of copper, mercury and iron.

Tourist route of Las Norias in Orihuela.

Starting from the Ociopía Shopping Center in Orihuela, this tourist route runs along the right bank of the Segura river, until it reaches Las Norias (a point very close to the border with the province of Murcia).

It is a tourist route with predominantly mountain landscapes; and the green, blue and gray colors intermingle with the natural tones of the garden.

Different types of birds make up its predominant fauna, along with other types of small mammals, which become the inhabitants of this area.

On the left bank of the river you can see the City Mill, one of the two hydraulic mills that still exist.

The current mill was built on a previous one, which was bought by Pío Wandosell at the beginning of the 20th century; in order to provide electricity to various towns (Orihuela, Callosa de Segura, Sax and Granja Rocamora).

The bridge that can be seen on the route with cutwaters on its pillars is from the 17th century, and was built as a means of communication for the inhabitants of the town of Beniel.

It is a beautiful tourist route in Orihuela, which has an approximate extension of 14 kilometers, and which has a beautiful landscape made up of mandarins, lemon trees and vegetables of different kinds in the middle of its journey.
